Bridgette No Stress Hashima is one of the three deuteragonists on Close Enough, the other being Alex Dorpenberger and Emily Ramirez. She is the ex-wife and current girlfriend of Alex, the best friend of Emily Ramirez, a close friend of Josh Singleton, and the honorary aunt of Candice.

She is voiced by Kimiko Glenn.

Biography[]

"Bridgette is a glamorous social media influencer — at least in her mind. She doesn’t have a steady job. 'Working' is more of a hobby she squeezes in between partying. Her comedy-rock act with Emily hasn’t hit the big time yet, but she’s still got #swaggerfordays."[1]

Physical appearance[]

Bridgette is a 26-year-old Japanese-American woman. She has bluish-black hair worn in a long bob cut with straight cut bangs, an ivory skin tone, brown eyes [2], and wears lavender eyeshadow. She is 5'4[3]. A close up in "Prank War" shows her wearing pink lipstick.

Her regular attire consists of a short sleeve bright pink oversized off-the-shoulder shirt with a deep blue bra underneath, yellow capri length pants, a large gold-colored bangle on her right wrist, deep blue flats, and a necklace with two yellow spheres and an orange cube shaped beads in the center. For sleepwear she wears a fitted white crop top and pink underwear.

"Time Hooch" shows when she first met and married Alex she had longer hair with longer, parted bangs. The montage of her and Alex's fights show her with roughly the same style it is now. She has retained her current hairstyle and outfit since three years prior to the start of the series, and shortly beforehand at Candice's second birthday party it was shown shorter in the back, likely meaning it grew out. She has also been shown as a teenager, child, and toddler with the same hairstyle she has now.

Personality[]

Bridgette is, in many ways, a typical young socialite and aspiring social influencer: she is outgoing, has a bustling social life, and comes from a privileged family. She is always up to date with trends and will not give a moment's hesitation to try anything that is trending on social media. She even has extra smartphones in case one of them breaks.

Bridgette also tends to be self-centered and lazy. She rarely takes into account how her cellphone addiction and social media obsessions become a hindrance to her friends, along with the fact that she mostly mooches around the house due to being dependent on her family's fortune, having never held down a job or had to work for money in her life. However, Bridgette is still a good friend and tries to make up for her selfishness from time to time.

Bridgette can be a little sex-crazed, wanting one night stands or sexual relationships. She also doesn’t really have any qualms with being scantly clad either in photos or even in front of other people or her roommates. However, Bridgette does have standards such as being horrified when she made out with a baby (disguised as a young adult). She also has a fear of commitment (mostly from her past marriage with Alex). She will sabotage her relationships when she feels they’re starting to get serious and force men to “ghost” her, which she didn’t realize she was doing until she dated an actual ghost named Henri Dubois Moureau V.

Despite divorcing him, she also gets jealous and insecure whenever Alex woes the attention of another woman, but when confronted with how she acts she never wants to admit she’s jealous or that she’s still hung up on her ex.

Throughout the show, Bridgette is shown to become somewhat more mature, like how in Clap Like This she initially rejects her mom taking back cutting her off after having to work and earn her very first paycheck, although she says she’ll take half what she normally gets from now on after Alex grosses her out with his economy sized hummus, "Where'd You Go, Bridgette?" has her learn how to enjoy life without her phone or social media, and "Legend of The Pier" ends with her accepting younger teen influencers being more popular than her and her viral teenage glory days are behind her. She also finally admits to Alex that she still has feelings for him after fulling realizing it in "Match Made in Valhalla", which is a mutual feeling on his end as well and the two get back together, agreeing to take things slow.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Her mother[]

Bridgette's mother allows her to live off of the family's money, giving her what’s implied a monthly allowance for her rent and whatever else she wants to spend it on. It seems she’s spoiled and sheltered Bridgette all her life, as Bridgette has never worked a real job.

In "Clap Like This", Mrs. Hashima video calls Bridgette to wish her a happy 26th birthday, and to also reveal that now that she’s 26 she is cut off financially, as per tradition in their family, and tells her to get a job, much to Bridgette's dismay. However, after Bridgette video calls her again sometime later to proudly show her mom her very first paycheck, she’s horrified at how little she’s paid and immediately puts her back on the family fortune.

"Bridgette the Brain" reveals that her mom favored her younger sister Olivia over her growing up, due to her high intelligence and accomplishments that came with it, which led to their relationship being strained as they fought for their mother's validation. Mrs. Hashima would also buy Olivia her own science building and lab named after her at CalTech, while she bought Bridgette a memorial toilet, and she would act condescending along with Olivia towards Bridgette due to not being as smart or accomplished, which causes Bridgette to steal one of Olivia's Intelli-Pills and become smarter than her and inventing a better version of the pill, which she uses to upstage Olivia at her own presentation, impressing Mrs. Hashima. The two end up taking multiple pills and fighting each other with the gravity manipulation their enlarged brains and intelligence gives them. As their fight reaches a climax, which they end up realizing that their mom pitted them against each other so they’d both be more successors as they tried to outdo each other, as to her "pressure makes diamonds"- in Olivia's case she held Bridgette’s accomplishments over hers and made her feel she preferred her older sister for being "popular and cool". After making up, the two sisters tell their mother off for pitting them against each other. Mrs. Hashima insists that her actions helped them become their best selves, but she’s happy that they’re finally getting along. Bridgette and Olivia then go back to the latter’s lab to invent an antidote befire their brains explode, and as they walk off the y joke about inventing a chill pill for their mom.

Olivia Hashima[]

Bridgette first reveals she has a sister in "The Canine Guy", when after Emily tells her she loves her like a sister, Bridgette said she would too except she already has a sister and she doesn’t use that term lightly. Despite what’s revealed about their relationship later, it seems regardless Bridgette does care deeply for her sister.

Olivia is properly introduced in "Bridgette the Brain", where’s it’s revealed the two aren’t close, as according to Bridgette Olivia is a prodigy who has upstaged her since birth, especially in the eyes of their mother as she held her intelligence and accomplishments that came with it over anything Bridgette did, even including Olivia being born faster. Olivia acts smug and condescending to Bridgette, making fun of her for being "dumb", while Bridgette returns the sentiment and calls Olivia's projects "nerd stuff", saying Olivia recently becoming a doctor just means she stayed in school too long, and brags about her social media following. Their mother enables their bickering, as she believes "pressure makes diamonds", and joins in on making Bridgette feel inferior. This causes Bridgette to steal one of Olivia's Intelli-Pills and become smarter than her and inventing a better version of the pill, which she uses to upstage Olivia at her own presentation, impressing Mrs. Hashima. The two end up taking multiple pills to outdo each other, and they start fighting each other with the gravity manipulation their enlarged brains and intelligence gives them. As their fight reaches a climax, they end up realizing that their mom pitted them against each other so they’d both be more successors as they tried to outdo each other - in Olivia's case she held Bridgette’s accomplishments over hers and made her feel she preferred her older sister for being "popular and cool". They apologize and hug, and tell their mother off for pitting them against each other. Mrs. Hashima insists that her actions helped them become their best selves, but she’s happy that they’re finally getting along. Bridgette and Olivia then go back to the latter’s lab to invent an antidote befire their brains explode, and as they walk off they joke about inventing a chill pill for their mom.

"Legend of the Pier" shows that in high school Olivia happily helped Bridgette film her viral Gr8Vine video of her doing a handstand on top of a Ferris wheel car, meaning that despite their rivalry their relationship was seemingly not always antagonist at least when they were younger.

Her father[]

Her aunt[]

Friends[]

Emily[]

Bridgette and Emily are best friends, like having first met each other through Alex being best friends with Josh. The two have a comedy rock band, where they both play guitar, sing and write comedy songs that they perform in small venues, with hopes of it taking off, although their band is not very popular, nor do they get a large crowd or much attention from what few patrons are present during their sets. Bridgette is still set on them making it big one day, while Emily has been shown to have her doubts if it ever will, along with the fact after she had Candice it hasn’t been as big of a priority for her.

Emily is also revealed to easily sense when something is wrong, as she is able to easily read Bridgette well like a book, and it is also shown in Season 3, that Emily knew that Bridgette still had feelings for her ex-husband and has tried on some occasions in order for her to open up in the episode Match Made In Valhalla.

Alex (Love Interest)[]

Bridgette and Alex when they first started dating

Bridgette and Alex when they first started dating

Bridgette met Alex at Brewin's Bar when he was still a professor at UCLA[4], presumably between five to seven years before the series takes place[5]. She "saw fireworks" the first time he said hi to her (and we later learn it was literal as it was due to an open time portal), and they began dating. Bridgette would join Alex’s class at UCLA, which caused him to get fired for dating a student. The two married in Las Vegas, seemingly quickly after their relationship started. Their whirlwind romance would fall apart in the following years however, having many fights, many of which were caused by Alex overreacting to something or saying something offensive, although Bridgette’s immaturity could also be blamed. One day, three years before the series takes place, Alex went to make an Italian sandwich in the kitchen and left it unattended, and he came back and it was gone. He assumed Bridgette ate it (when in reality it was his future self and Josh trying to prevent it from getting eaten and it slipped out the window), which led to another argument that led to Alex blurting out that he wish he never met her. This was the final straw for their marriage as the next day Bridgette asked for divorce. Unbeknownst to Bridgette, Alex would however not sign the divorce papers she would give him a year before the show takes place, hiding them in the garage, in hopes their relationship would fix itself.

Despite being divorced from each other, Bridgette and Alex are still relatively close, and continue to both hang out together and live in the same apartment along with Josh, Emily, and Candice, with Alex sleeping in a walk in closet while Bridgette has the third bedroom to herself. They get into arguments and annoy each other, due to Bridgette’s social media and smartphone obsession and her immaturity, and Alex’s neuroticism and general tendacy to be a jerk, but they still care about each other and do make up after having fights. Throughout the rest of the show, the two are also hinted many times to still have feelings for each other, especially since Bridgette is shown to get jealous whenever Alex gains the attention of another woman.

A very worried concerned Bridgette Finds Alex interacting with Toluca Lake...

In Robot Tutor, Bridgette and Alex go to Emily’s boss’s beach condo during spring break, as Josh and Emily have to stay behind due to Candice needing tutoring, and plan to engage in divorce sex. However, Alex gets annoyed at Bridgette fussing over her social media posts and leaves for the beach bar. There, he meets another fellow modern technology hater named Toluca Lake. Bridgette shows up dressed as a Viking girl, but to her annoyance Alex rejects her in favor of spending the night with Toluca. The next day Alex and Toluca return to the hotel room. While Toluca is in the bathroom Alex reveals to Bridgette spending the night with Toluca wasn’t that great and they didn’t even have sex. The two apologize to each other, and at the end of the epsiode they’re shown sharing a towel together on the beach.

In the episode "First Date", Bridgette heads to have her first date with a man named Ron she has been texting and sexting lately after meeting him on a dating app. She says he’s the first guy since getting divorced that she feels will go somewhere, and that it’s hard to find guys who don’t have an issue with the fact she still lives with her ex, something her friends agree is weird and a red flag. When she heads to the date she lies to Alex that she’s going to a funeral, which he doesn’t believe and is chill with the fact that she’s going on a date, surprising her. Later she calls Alex to be her wingman after finding out Ron is surgically conjoined to his ex girlfriend Joy. However, she grows jealous of Alex hitting it off with Joy, while her interest in Ron after actually meeting him in person wanes. At one point, after getting mad at Alex dancing with Joy because he never took her dancing when they were married, she tries to take Alex home, but he refuses because he’s having fun with Joy. Bridgette angrily asks if he loves her so much why doesn’t he sew himself to her.

Alex confronting Bridgette over her jealously, as the two plan to conjoin themselves to their dates

Alex decides to actually go along with it, and the four of them go to the Conjoined Clonic where Ron and Joy got themselves sewn together. Bridgette’s jealously grows ans she makes out with Ron to try and make Alex jealous but he doesn’t notice, and announces she’s going to conjoin herself to Ron so that the two of them will be able to have sex. This results into her and Alex arguing toward one another, with Bridgette refusing to admit she’s jealous after Alex claims she can’t stand the fact he was moving on. Ron and Joy finally interrupt them, with Ron telling Bridgette he can’t be with her if she’s still hung up over her ex. Alex tries to save his relationship with Joy by claiming that he did not write anything in a memoir concerning Bridgette including her teeth, this in turns calms Bridgette's anger down, and actually makes her stare at him in a loving way.

Bridgette finds out in Time Hooch that Alex never signed the divorce papers she gave him over a year ago, and even kept them hidden in the attic. She demands that he sign them. Alex reveals to Josh he did this because he hoped that their relationship would fix itself, and the episode revolves around him going back in time to stop their fights (which there ended up being many of) in order to save their marriage, despite the rejection of all of his past selves, and even tried to stop himself from meeting Bridgette to begin with.

It was from here that Alex would eventually realize that both the cause and loss of their marriage was not because of Bridgette but because of him, and what a jerk he has been to Bridgette throughout the times they were married, and it wasn’t just one single argument that ruined it.

His past self still meets Bridgette, and in the present he gives her the signed divorce papers, which makes her happy.

Bridgette and Alex partying with Cokey Brian

Bridgette and Alex partying with Cokey Brian

In "The Perfect Couple" both exes spend the majority of the episode in each others company, with the conflict of the episode revolving around them being annoyed at Josh and Emily making them go to kid friendly places with them to hang out so that they can bring Candice along. The two of them resolve to spend time away from Josh and Emily, and while waiting in line for a club meet Cokey Brian, who they begin to party alongside for three weeks straight, hitting up various places like a roller skating rink, arcade, and kick ball tournament, all while drinking heavily. However, at one point while on a log ride at Knotts Berry Farm, the two come to the realization all adult activities are just kids activities but with drugs and alcohol. After Cokey Brian rocks the log boat to make it launch off the track, the three crash land into the jam gift shop, landing Alex and Bridgette in Jam Jail as Cokey Brian attempts to make a run for it and crashes a cop car into a tree. Josh and Emily bail them out, promising to make time for them, while Alex and Bridgette say they’ll just bring flasks to Candice’s events and activities from now on.

The season 3 finale (and what ended up being the series finale) "Match Made In Valhalla" is focused on Alex and Bridgette’s relationship, particularly the fact the latter’s lingering feelings for the former.

Bridgette’s matchmaking skills grab the attention of other people in town, who ask her for help finding partners. She manages to successfully find perfect matches for everyone in town, but herself. Meanwhile, her feelings for Alex have become more prominent, as there are two instances where she looks at him longingly, and after he assures her earlier that she shouldn’t have an issue finding someone, continuing to be supportive of her seeing other people, she’s flattered but also gets nervous of the possibility that Alex might move on.

After pairing up everyone in town but herself, she returns home to find Alex , who hasn’t been paired up yet, trying to find his favorite Viking DVD in the couch cushions m where she has another moment of looking at him romantically in slow motion.

Alex meeting a fellow Viking enthusiast named Hannah, which makes Bridgette jealous

Hiwever, a woman named Hannah shows up at the door for Bridgette’s matchmaking services, and she reveals she is into men who loves viking lore like she does, along with guys who wear tweed, glasses, and have unkempt beards that smell like hummus. Bridgette attempts to tell her she can’t help her, but Alex walks into frame complaining about losing his Viking film, which Hannah happens to have on her (along with the directors cut) and finishes his sentence naming the title, and the two are immediately drawn to each other, to Bridgette’s dismay. Alex invites her into his closet to watch them, the two of them unintentionally locking Bridgette out of the apartment in the process.

To Bridgette’s further horror, the next morning she wakes up to find Hannah in the bathroom brushing her teeth after having both spent the night and having sex with Alex, and the sight of them acting loving to each other and making out in the kitchen furthers her jealousy, but when asked about it by Emily Bridgette laughs maniacally and denies being jealous, and she ends up excusing herself out of the house. She doesn’t even pay attention to another matchmaking client as she scrolls through Alex’s instagram posts or him and Hannah. She gets a text from Alex saying he needs to talk to her back at the house, relieving her as she claims she knew the two of them wouldn’t work out.

Alex proposes to Hannah, to Bridgette’s horror

Alex proposes to Hannah, to Bridgette’s horror

She returns to the apartment where Alex asks if she feels weirded out by him and Hannah, which she nervously laughs and lies and says it isn’t and she has also been having sex. Alex is revived, and says he’s glad that she’s here is see what’s about to happen, and to Bridgette’s shock he then proposes to Hannah.Bridgette remains in a state of shock on the day of the wedding, but Emily confronts her about it when she’s using a vacuum cleaner to clean the dishes, insisting that she tell Alex she still has feeling for him. However, Bridgette still stubbornly refuses to admit anything and says their marriage will last a week tops.

Bridgette and Alex kiss, officially getting back together

Bridgette and Alex kiss, officially getting back together

During the reception, Hannah interrupts the I-dos and reveals she’s actually a Norse goddess of love named Hanoss, and invites Alex to come to Valhalla, which he immediately accepts and jumps aboard her chariot as the two ride up to the sky. Bridgette becomes distressed that Alex is leaving forever, as memories of their relationship and marriage rush over her, making her tear up. She chases after the chariot begging Alex to wait, and she finally reveals to him she still has feeling for him. Alex then apologizes to Hanoss, because he cannot marry her as he too also still has feelings for Bridgette. Hanoss is offended he’s leaving a goddess for a mortal but begrudgingly accepts and leaves for Valhalla. Alex admits living with the gods would be been great, but not as great as being with Bridgette, and the two share a kiss, officially getting back together, as the tearful wedding crowd applauds.

The two are then seeing walking holding hands, and Bridgette asks Alex on their second first date, which Alex agree to but this time around they’ll take things slow, especially so he won’t mess things up like usual, but the sex they don’t have to wait for.

Hanoss then appears as a storm clouds and makes it rain fish from the sky, furious at Alex for breaking her heart. Bridgette asks Alex if he blocked her on Instagram yet, to which Alex says they just broke up, and Bridgette jokingly replies "Always with the excuses". The two almost share a kiss again before Hanoss strikes a lightning bolt near them.
